Daryl R Smith
Author of "A Quiet Night in June"
Daryl was born and raised in central Indiana. He has a Bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Anderson University and a Master's degree and an Educational Specialist degree from Ball State University. Daryl taught fifth and sixth grades in Alexandria, Indiana before becoming an elementary school principal in Monticello, Indiana. Daryl also worked as a county economic developer for four years after retiring from education before turning his full attention to writing.
During his years in education and economic development, Daryl discovered his passion for writing. Initially, he wrote poems during times of inspiration, and then branched into research for his developing book ideas. Daryl utilized those working years to hone writing skills with regular newsletter publications.
Daryl's first book, A Quiet Night in June, was published in early 2013. To him, it was a challenging and rewarding adventure to write and edit the forty original poems for the book. As an added touch, he used his artistic inspiration to draw and paint seventeen illustrations for the book.

Daryl loves the inspiration and exhilaration from fine paintings and other works of art. Throughout the course of his life, a sketchbook was always close by. Daryl's artistic yen expanded to the world of watercolors after his retirement. Even though each artist medium has its own special attributes, he is particularly drawn to the softer colors, nuances, and shadings of watercolor work. Though still a budding artist, Daryl has had some of artwork selected and displayed in his hometown in Indiana.
